A person whom I love and respect passed away today.
Brad Carpenter entered into True Peace today. He left behind his wonderful wife Karen (Caples), two precious boys, his sister, Ann and many family and friends. Brad went to Auburn with me. He was a Christian man of integrity. He was loving, honest and could always make you laugh. Karen was one of the older girls who reached out to me when I started college. Ann was my roommate and continues to be one of those friends. You know, one of those that even though you don't talk every day, maybe even for months, she is always there, always cares about the things that really matter and can always be trusted. This family will always hold a special place in my heart. They all played great roles in my Christian walk.
Craig is preaching on Sunday mornings from 1 Peter. Last week he talked about "suffering in the body." Craig talked brought up the Matt Redman song "Blessed be Your Name." The chorus says "You give and take away." I never would have imagined how much those words would impact and support me this week.
We are blessed to know God's purpose and desire for each of our lives; to bring us closer into His presence on the Earth and in Heaven. I would never claim to fully understand the journey He has chosen for me or any other person. I can only rest in the assurance that His Perfect Will will be done. God may take away and yes it hurts, but thank Him for the blessings He gives so freely. This is the second family, whom we love deeply, who has lost a husband and father. I cannot begin to imagine the feelings that go along with those losses. I know the pain I feel for the loss of these men is nothing compared to what their families feel. I also know that I can continue to love these families deeply. I have shed many tears for them and I will continue to. I have prayed for them and I will continue to.
"Know that the LORD is God. It is he who made us, and we are his, we are his people, the sheep of his pasture"
Blessed be your name
In the land that is plentiful
Where the streams of abundance flow
Blessed be your name
Blessed be your name
When I'm found in the desert place
Though I walk through the wilderness
Blessed be your name
Every blessing you pour out,
I turn back to praise
When the darkness closes in, Lord
Still I will say...
Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be your name
Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be your glorious name
Blessed be your name
When the sun's shining down on me
When the world's all as it should be
Blessed be your name
Blessed be your name
On the road marked with suffering
Though there's pain in the offering
Blessed be your name
Every blessing you pour out,
I turn back to praise
When the darkness closes in, Lord
Still I will say...
Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be your name
Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be your glorious name
You give and take away
You give and take away
My heart will choose to say
Lord, Blessed be your name
